The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially announced that the sales of JAMB registration form for 2019 UTME will commence on January 10th, 2019. The announcement was made by JAMB’s Registrar Professor Oloyede during a meeting with owners of JAMB Computer Based Test Centres at the University of Lagos. According to professor Oloyede, the sales of form will start January 10th and last for 6 weeks. Followed by the examination in March. He further disclosed that the board will not allow Cyber Cafe operators to register candidates because they are extorting candidates and overcharging them and also engaging in services that they do not have the capacity to do. The professor urged all prospective candidates to do their registration and access the board’s major services in any of its 718 accredited centres in the country. The Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, in Osun State has been thrown to mourning following the death of a student identified as Opeyemi Grace Dara. The deceased who was in the Department of English and Literature was said to have committed suicide after a dose of lethal substance popularly known as snipper. Although the details of the incident were still sketchy, our correspondent learnt that she took her life following the poor academic performance. But the authorities of the institution confirmed that the deceased committed suicide due to depression occasioned by poor academic records. A copy of her academic records obtained from her page on the school portal indicated that she had many outstanding courses. The closing date for registration of screening of all UTME candidates is 11th August 2019. The facility for DE candidates will be available as from Thursday 15th August, 2019. After Registration, DE Students should ensure that their transcript is forwarded by the Awarding Institution to the Admission Office, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife for DE Admission processing. UTME Candidates will also be required to participate in the Post-UTME screening on their allotted date and time between 31st August and 4th September, 2019. It should be noted that the Direct Entry (DE) candidates will not be participating in the Screening. The printing of postutme exam slip which contains the summary of the examination date and venue commences on 19th August, 2019. Report from the 2019 JAMB Policy Meeting held recently, and other related developments in 2019 Admission processes, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB has released the 2019 UTME application statistics for tertiary institutions across the country. According to the information released by the board, the University of Ilorin, Kwara State had 108,912 applications, making it the University with the highest first choice applications for 2019, with Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Kaduna State coming in second place with 81,397 applications. For colleges of education, the data revealed the Federal College of Education, Zaria to have the highest first choice applications, with 3,770 applications. The management of the University of Ibadan (UI) has stated that the university's cut-off mark for 2019/2020 academic session remains 200 as against 160 agreed on by the Joint Admissions Matriculation Board (JAMB) and stakeholders of higher institutions as the minimum cut-off mark for the 2019/2020 Academic Session. The Office of the Registrar, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-ife, Osun state, has announced the university's cut-off mark for the 2019/2020 admission. Recall that at the 19th policy meeting on admission that held at Bola Babalakin Auditorium, Gbongan, Osun State, 160 was approved as the minimum benchmark for admission into public institutions while 140 was set for private. The policy meeting that was presided by Jamb Registrar, Isaq Oloyede and attended by some stakeholders in education also approved a minimum of 120,110 and 100 for public polytechnics, private polytechnics and college of education respectively. JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, About 76.2 per cent of the 1,792,719 candidates who sat for the 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculations Examination( UTME) scored below 50 per cent. This was revealed by Professor Ishaq Oloyede, registrar of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board(JAMB) when he released the results of the examination held over five days in April. According to Oloyede: “361,718 candidates scored between 180 and 199 as against 325,152 in 2018, while 494,484 scored between 160 and 179 as against 455,898 last year. “410,844 candidates scored between 140 and 159 as against 346,825 recorded in 2018 while also 99,463 scored between 100 and 139 as against 64,712 in 2018.” Oloyede said results for 49,265 candidates are being withheld by the JAMB. In this article, I will discuss as brief as possible some facts about theory and practice. I will address some questions such as ‘which between theory and practice should be done first? Which is more advantageous to the society? Which should be given higher prestige? Can either exist and be relevant to the society without the other?... Before we address these questions we need to know what theory and practice means. Cambridge advanced learner dictionary defines theory as a formal statement of the rules on which a subject of study is based or of ideas which are suggested to explain a fact or event, while it defines practice as an action rather than thought or ideas. Though, there are various ways we can look into this discourse. It’s not really a philosophical question, but it’s an open ended question as philosophers would say.
